Artist of The Month
Janice Newman, an award-winning artist and former art educator with a 40-year teaching career, moved from Rhode Island to Sarasota, FL, in 2016. She has taught at institutions including the Rhode Island School of Design and has held prominent roles, such as President of Women Contemporary Artists and Exhibition Chair, among others. Her art, often a blend of abstract and representational styles, explores nature, spirituality, and the beauty of fleeting moments.
“I look for the beauty in the moment that makes me catch my breath, that gives me hope. And, then, I paint it.”
