This monthā€™s artist: Laurie Maves Guglielmi

Laurie Maves Guglielmi has built a life and career shaped by her adventurous spirit and passion for art. She began her formal study of studio art at the University of Wisconsin in the early 1990s, eventually earning a masterā€™s degree in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Laurieā€™s career has taken her from art therapy work in nursing homes and cancer centers to live performance painting at Red Rocks Amphitheater. After relocating to Sarasota in 2017, she embraced intuitive abstract painting, taught her signature ā€œBE FREEā€ classes, and opened The 11th Orange arts studio before transitioning her work to new creative avenues.

This monthā€™s poets: Owen Hodge and Sue Hargis Spigel

Owen Hodge has been writing poetry and sharing it with family and friends for many years. Themes related to travel, history, and unexpected visual experiences show up in his verses, as well as mathematics and technology. Owen met his wife in Tunisia, and they have lived in Montana, Oregon, California, Syria, Sumatra, and Connecticut before coming to Sarasota County several years ago.

Sue Hargis Spigel has written poetry and stories since elementary school. Hoping for vast improvement since then, Sue participates in workshops, readings, and open-mic nights in Sarasota, including The Word Show, Poets Unplugged at Fogartyville, and classes at ACE with Patricia Rockwood. She has worked as a writer, editor, nonprofit publicity coordinator, and administrative assistant.
